“Tini whetū i te rangi ko ngā uri o Rangitane ki te whenua.”

Right in the heart of the Manawatū an effective suicide prevention initiative called “He Mea Nui Koe”, has been growing with the Best Care (Whakapai Hauora) Charitable Trust team.

“He Mea Nui Koe” is a targeted suicide prevention program, that aims to enrich the health and well-being of Rangatahi, as well as the health and well-being of the wider whānau, with a particular focus on suicide prevention. This programme aims to acknowledge the whānau as the foundation for well-being.  The activities and outcomes align to the Whānau Ora strategy outcomes and acknowledges the points of action set out in the Every Life Matters Suicide Prevention Strategy 2019-2029 (as well as the Suicide Prevention Action Plan 2019-2024).

The initiative, delivered in Manawatū and Tararua are marae based in both regions, with a noho included at Pohangina which is of cultural significance to Rangitāne iwi.

*This Iwi Initiative was supported by the Māori Suicide Prevention Community Fund 2020-2021.
