About the Fund
Since 2020, the Māori Suicide Prevention Community Fund has supported whānau, hapū, Māori community groups, iwi and Māori providers to deliver locally led suicide prevention and wellbeing initiatives throughout Aotearoa.
The Fund supports Māori-led solutions grounded in mātauranga Māori, whakapapa, whanaungatanga and the strengths of our communities.

For recognised whānau or hapū groups delivering grassroots initiatives that strengthen connection, identity and resilience.
For Māori-led legal entities or registered charities delivering kaupapa Māori wellbeing and suicide prevention activities.
For iwi organisations and Māori providers delivering structured initiatives grounded in tikanga, te reo and mātauranga Māori.
For two or more eligible iwi or Māori providers working together on a regional or national, high-impact initiative.

Your application pathway

Select the one category that matches your group’s legal and governance structure.
Log in or create an account in the Te Rau Ora Funding Portal.
Complete the online application, including your initiative plan, budget and supporting evidence.
Review and submit your application through the Funding Portal by Monday 7 September 2026 at 1.00pm.

No. Each applicant or rōpū may submit one application only across all four funding categories. Choose the category that best matches your legal and governance structure.
Recognised whānau and hapū groups may apply in the Whānau & Hapū Groups category, provided they meet all category requirements, including having a bank account in the group’s name.
Previous recipients may apply if they have met their existing contractual and reporting obligations and meet the eligibility requirements for the 2026–2027 round.
Depending on your category, you may provide a link to an official Charities Services or Companies Register listing, or upload an accepted document such as a certificate of incorporation, trust deed or other evidence listed in the Guidelines.
The Fund supports Māori-led initiatives that strengthen protective factors, promote wellbeing, prevent suicide, support early intervention, increase awareness of available services, or support whānau affected or bereaved by suicide.
Yes. Once you begin your application online in the Te Rau Ora Funding Portal, your progress is saved as you go. You can log out and return later to continue from where you left off.
Eligible applications are assessed against the published criteria. Applicants will be advised of the outcome after the assessment and approval process is complete.
