2025 Funding Goals & Objectives
The 2025 Māori Community Suicide Prevention Fund supports Māori-led initiatives that focus on improving mental health and preventing suicide. Its primary goal is to empower Māori communities by funding projects that promote resilience, cultural identity, and community wellbeing. The fund encourages innovative approaches grounded in Te Ao Māori, with an emphasis on whānau, hapū, and iwi collaboration.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who can apply for this fund?
Whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori community groups, and Māori health or wellbeing providers can all apply. Collaborations between iwi and providers are also welcome.
2. How much funding is available?
There are four levels of funding: up to $10,000, $25,000, $50,000, or $100,000, depending on the size and scope of your initiative.
3. What kinds of projects will be funded?
We support kaupapa Māori initiatives that strengthen identity, connection, and resilience. Examples include wānanga, wellbeing programmes, cultural workshops, intervention activities, and postvention or bereavement support.
4. What will not be funded?
The fund does not cover activities outside the kaupapa of suicide prevention, core organisational overheads, projects outside the delivery timeframe, or initiatives that are not Māori-led or kaupapa Māori in approach.
5. Do I need to be a registered charity or trust to apply?
No. Whānau and hapū-led initiatives are eligible, even if they are not formal organisations, provided they can show a clear plan and accountability.
6. How are applications assessed?
Applications are reviewed by an external panel based on how well they align with the goals of the Māori Community Suicide Prevention Fund and kaupapa Māori suicide prevention principles.
7. When do applications open and close?
Application dates are set each year. For 2025, Funding applications open, Monday 29 September 2025, 9am and close, Monday 24 November 2025, 11:59pm.
8. How long do we have to deliver our project?
Projects must be completed within the funding period outlined in the guidelines (between 6 – 12 months depending on contracted period start to finish date).
9. What reporting is required if we are successful?
Successful applicants will need to sign a contract with Te Rau Ora and provide updates and a final report on project outcomes. Support will be provided to help you meet these requirements.
