Mihi Whakaora Wānanga

Working Through Grief from Suicide (Post-vention)

The Mihi Whakakaora wānanga draw from kaumātua knowledge systems, to provide a Māori framework for working with people effected by suicide or at risk of suicide. The kaupapa of Mihi Whakaora explores ngā wāhanga e whā o te tangihanga, or four core aspects of Tangihanga, which enable whānau to deal with loss.

As a part of the Manaaki Ora / Ihi Ora Suite of Resources (within Te Rau Ora), Mihi Whakaora has been developed as an extension of the suicide prevention suite of programs, to give knowledge and understanding around supporting whānau bereaved by suicide through a Māori cultural grieving process.

Mihi Whakaora is a one-day wānanga exploring key aspects of tangihanga and how this process is important when working through grief, especially for whānau Māori affected by Suicide.

The facilitation team have experience in suicide prevention, mental health and addiction treatment and have years of experience working with whānau Māori.

Each wānanga in the Manaaki Ora suite is tailored to exploring and broadening understanding of Māori approaches to working with whānau, individuals and community, to prevent suicide and self-harm.

Cost?

There is no fee to participate in this 1 day wānanga.
