Te Rau Ora and the Centre of Māori Suicide Prevention are pleased to announce the recipients of the Māori Community Suicide Prevention Fund for 2022. The $1.6 million Fund is aimed at whānau and community driven approaches to prevent suicide, or to offer support to those bereaved by suicide. Of a total of 91 applicants in 2022, there were 61 successful recipients in communities throughout Aotearoa. Recipients ranged from whānau, hapū and community groups to Iwi and Māori providers in locations from the Far North to Invercargill (and everywhere in between). Each recipient received funding between $10,000 and $100,000 to run specific initiatives based on Mātauranga Māori, Te Reo, culture and values. All 61 of these initiatives are providing Māori solutions to reach at-risk Māori whānau, communities and groups to build inclusive communities, strengthen resilience and increase capacity for whānau Māori to prevent suicide and promote wellness.
Since 2020, this Fund has supported over 200 Māori suicide prevention initiatives. Please join us in celebrating the success of our latest Māori Community Fund initiatives for (listed below). Also, keep an eye out for the next round of funding in 2023.
