This initiative plans to start Orakei’s first whānau-led suicide prevention kaupapa, aligning with Orakei’s 10-year mental heal and wellbeing strategy.
Our initiative will provide an opportunity for local Orakei whānau to learn about suicide prevention, postvention, risks and factors, and provide tools for how best to support those who may be at risk, or who have experienced the effects of this in their whānau.
We include Marae-styled wananga which will integrate both Māori and no-Māori mātauranga.
Our long-term objective is to normalise suicide prevention activities and discussions amongst the whānau, and to build resilience and enhance their confidence and competence around suicide prevention.
