This programme targets at risk Māori and Pasifika whanau within our Ngātiwai rohe. Rau Ora kaupapa will consist of a series of wānanga in Whangaruru to include other hapu in Ngātiwai. All wānanga will focus on youth finding their own unique space and purpose within our community, grounded through whakapapa. Youth will complete local community service projects, specifically beach and roadside clean ups and signs, including any property damaged by graffiti, the marae grounds and the sports complex, urupa, and areas of cultural significance . Rau Ora will provide leadership opportunities for our youth and their whānau to take ownership of the projects, delegate responsibilities, and work alongside their peers. This will enhance and build whānau capacity and capability in our community, marae, hapū and in the wider Ngātiwai iwi.
